fFN (Fetal Fibronectin) Test

When Should You Be Tested?

Could your baby be born too early? fFN testing is approved for use from weeks 22 to 35 of gestation, in women at risk for preterm birth, with or without symptoms. Many factors can cause or contribute to spontaneous preterm birth. However, more than half of preterm births occur in women who have no apparent risk factors. A fFN test result can give you peace of mind, or help you and your doctor take steps to better manage your pregnancy.

IN THIS SECTION

If you are having symptoms of preterm labor, a fFN test may help your doctor assess your risk for preterm birth. The test result can give you peace of mind, or may help you take steps to better manage your pregnancy.

Women at greatest risk for preterm labor and birth include those who have had a prior preterm birth, those who are pregnant with twins or triplets, and those who have certain cervical abnormalities.

If you are at a greater risk for preterm labor, fFN testing is a way to help you and your doctor know what to expect.

When you discuss preterm birth with your doctor, be sure to ask about fFN. It can help your doctor tell if your body may be getting ready for delivery, even before you feel any of the symptoms.
